Psychoanalytic Therapy

Psychoanalytic therapy seeks not only to heal our psychological wounds, but to uncover the unconscious emotional blocks that prevent emotional growth and stymie creative potential. During treatment emphasis is placed on the patient-therapist relationship. The alliance between us is used to initiate personal growth in real-life. I offer an empathetic and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel safe in revealing feelings or actions that have led to stress and difficulties in your life. I generally spend time listening to you talk about your thoughts, feeling, and experiences, which is why this method is often referred to as "the talking cure." I will look for patterns or significant events that may play a role in the your current difficulties. This type of therapy helps us understand and resolve problems by increasing awareness of your inner world and its influence over relationships both past and present, and will help you discover experiences that you may not be able to put into words. Differing from several other therapy types, psychoanalytic therapy aims to make deep-seated changes in personality and emotional development.
